In ancient times, the Mayans used Isla Mujeres to sacrifice virgin girls. But, It owes its name to a Spanish explorer who came from Cuba in search of manpower. The many statues of women in Mayan temples inspired him.

Due to its original and interesting history, it gathers many great attractions and secrets. All of them, waiting for you to explore.

Here is a short list of things to do if you are planning to visit the magnificent Isla Mujeres.

In the clear waters of Isla Mujeres, in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, a unique museum was created in 2009: MUSA (Underwater Museum of Contemporary Art). With its 500 sculptures immersed in water 4 to 8 m deep, is the largest underwater museum in the world and Mexico.
Silhouettes, mute crowds imploring or threatening, but also scenes of daily life: a man on his couch watching TV…
These sculptures – signed by 6 artists – are available in several ways, either by diving, with mask and snorkel, or by taking a boat with a glass bottom. This genius idea is the work of Jason deCaires Taylor, an English sculptor with a passion for scuba diving, who acquired his international reputation when he created, in 2006, the first underwater sculpture park in Grenada, in the West Indies.

Garrafon Natural Park is a must thing to do in Isla Mujeres because it offers both a place to relax plus, several more activities.
It is important to understand that the beaches of Isla Mujeres are crowded and Garrafon offers a much more tranquil and exclusive alternative. So, if you ask us, is the ideal place for snorkeling, as is part of the longest coral reef in the northern hemisphere and is home to a rich ecosystem.
It is also possible to kayak, zip line (there are 3 of them!), enjoy the swimming pool facing the sea and rest in the hammocks between the palm trees. Also, enjoy a restaurant on site!

It truly is a little treasure, and much less frequented than the Playa Norte area! Why? Well, few people know about it and that’s why it is a must-see place in Isla Mujeres.
“El Parque de Los Sueños”, also called Kin Ha, is a beach club that allows you to enjoy the island to the fullest.
It is a small complex facing the Caribbean Sea where you can find a restaurant with a terrace, an infinity pool with a bar, several areas to relax in the sun, and easy access to the sea.
Kayaks, paddleboards, and snorkeling equipment can be rented on site.

With such transparent water and the Grand Mayan Reef, which is the 2nd largest reef in the world, snorkeling is a great thing to do in Isla Mujeres.
To practice snorkeling in Isla Mujeres without a tour, we recommend you rather go to a beach club like Kin Ha, Garrafon, since both provide the equipment.
On the other hand, taking a snorkeling tour allows you to see much more!
El Farito is the most popular snorkeling spot on the island and is only 5 minutes away by boat. It is the smallest lighthouse on Isla Mujeres, with a reef at its surroundings with fish and coral. There is also the submerged statue of La Virgen del Farito, the saint of fishermen.

Isla Contoy is only 30 km away from Isla Mujeres. It is one of the most beautiful destinations in Mexico!
This tiny, almost deserted island is a national park that is home to the most important seabird nesting site in the Caribbean!
Its access is limited to 200 people per day, so it is very important to book for the chance to enjoy its calm, sandy beaches and transparent water.
The visit of Contoy includes free time on the beach, a small guided tour on its paths (for those who wish), and a good lunch of Tikinxik fish.
It’s paradise on earth!
